What is an llms.txt file?
An llms.txt file is a Markdown file you place at the root of your site, at yoursite.com/llms.txt. It lists your most important pages with a short description of each, so AI assistants and agents can find your key content without crawling your whole site. It was proposed in September 2024 and is a community convention, not an official web standard.
What the file actually contains
Think of it as a hand-written menu for AI assistants. Instead of letting them guess their way through your navigation, cookie banners and scripts, you hand them a short list of your most important pages with a line explaining each one. Ours builds that list from your live sitemap, using your real page titles and meta descriptions rather than guessing from URLs.
A heading and a summary
The file opens with your business name as a heading, then a one-line summary in a blockquote. That summary is the first thing any model reads, so it should say what you do and who you do it for, in one sentence.
A short list of real links
Five to fifteen links, each with a description. Being selective is the whole point. A list of every page you own is just a sitemap, and sitemaps already exist. We rank your pages and pull the ones that matter, pushing legal and policy pages to the bottom.
Nothing invented
If a page is not on your site, it does not go in the file. Many generators pad the output with placeholder links like /about or /services whether or not those pages exist. Ours reads robots.txt, walks your sitemap index, and uses only URLs that are really there.

Does llms.txt actually do anything in 2026?
Most tools that generate this file will not tell you the truth, so here it is. Google has said it does not use llms.txt for Search or AI Overviews, and John Mueller publicly compared it to the old keywords meta tag. No major AI company has formally committed to reading it in production. AI coding tools and agents do use it, and companies including Anthropic, Stripe and Cloudflare publish one. It takes ten minutes, carries no SEO risk, and forces you to decide which pages actually matter.
How to install your file
Once the file is generated, getting it live takes about five minutes and no developer.
Generate and review
Run the tool, then read the list. Swap in the pages you actually want AI tools to read, and rewrite the summary line in your own words. The generated version is a strong starting point, not a finished file.
Upload to your root
Save it as llms.txt and upload it to your site root so it loads at yoursite.com/llms.txt. On WordPress that is the folder holding wp-config.php. Hostinger and cPanel users can do this in File Manager.
Confirm it returns plain text
Open the URL in a browser. You should see plain text, not a styled page and not a 404. If your host returns an HTML error page instead, the file is in the wrong folder.
